Keynote speaker: Dr. Rhea Settles of The Civility Zone

A noted mediator, educator, and researcher regarding civility issues, Dr. Settles will focus her presentation on civility in the workplace.

The first plenary session will be led by arbitrators Richard Ahearn and Michael Cavanaugh on And the Arbitrator's Award Goes to . . . .

The second session will be a panel discussion on Post-McCleary: The Future of Labor Relationships in Washington Public Schools featuring Karen Hart (president, SEIU Local 925), Elyse Maffeo (general counsel, PSE of WA, SEIU Local 1948), Kim Mead (president, WEA), Sheryl Anderson Moore (special projects/human resources, Seattle School District), and Buzz Porter, attorney at law, Porter Foster Rorick LLP). Moderated by Mike Sellars (executive director, PERC).

One keynote sessions, two plenary sessions and four concurrent sessions with 15 workshops from which to choose.

Sample workshops include:

  • Two of Washington's most experienced advocates, Otto Klein of @summitlaw and Alex Skalbania, give a practical perspective of the interest arbitration process and discuss recent rulings and trends.
  • In the “Current Labor Law Trends” workshop, WA PERC's Chris Casillas & Sarah Cudahy of Indiana Education Employment Relations Board will discuss what you need to know about Janus, strikes, new laws, and much more!
  • WA PERC's Erin Slone-Gomez and Katelyn Sypher will lead a nuts-and-bolts workshop on "Organizing Your Team for Bargaining Success" with tips to help newer bargainers and those taking the lead for the first time create clear bargaining records.
