Transgender Rights at Work

The Northwest Chapter of LERA is in the process of expanding its membership base, updating its by-laws, and developing additional seminars and programs for members.  We have always appreciated your support of our annual conference, and hope you will find this year’s conference and our additional programs engaging and useful.

Where: Federal Building, 915 Second Avenue, Seattle, Washington (South auditorium)
Time: 8:30 – 10 am
Cost: $20.00 at door

Coffee, pastries, and other refreshments will be provided. 

We are delighted that our featured speaker will be Molly Powell, Administrative Judge, EEOC.  Her timely and increasingly important topic will be:Transgender Rights at Work.

Please join us for this inaugural event and help prepare yourself and your organization to deal effectively and respectfully with issues of gender identity, gender expression, and related topics in the context of labor and employment law at the workplace.

The Northwest Chapter of the Labor and Employment Relations Association’s 35th Annual Collective Bargaining and Arbitration Conference took place Thursday and Friday, April 26 and April 27, 2012 at the New Conference Center, Level 3 at the Washington State Convention Center located at Eighth and Pike, Seattle, Washington.

The following Continuing Education Credits were approved for the Conference:

WSBA CLE Credits: Max Total: 10.25 / Max Ethics: 1.50
HRCI Recertification Credit Hours: 10.25

Conference Fee:
Early Registration: $295.00 (Registered by April 13, 2012)
After April 13, 2012: $320.00
Student Rate: $75.00 (Contact registrar directly)

Hotel Accommodations:
The Westin Seattle, located at 1900 5th Avenue, Seattle, WA, 98101, offered a special conference rate and was the official hotel for the conference.

Ron Sims was the Keynote Speaker on Thursday, April 26th and Daniel Nielsen was the Plenary Speaker on Friday, April 27th.

 
RON SIMS:

Appointed by President Obama and confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Ron Sims served as the Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development from 2009 to 2011. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Sims served for 12 years as the elected Executive of Martin Luther King, Jr. County in Washington State. Before becoming County Executive, he was an elected member of the county council. In December, 2011 Ron was appointed to the Board of Regents at Washington State University by Governor Christine Gregoire.

 
DANIEL NIELSEN:

Dan Nielsen is a mediator and arbitrator, with a practice based in the Midwest and an honors graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School. Dan worked for the State of Wisconsin, primarily as a mediator, arbitrator and hearing examiner with the Wisconsin Employment Relations Commission. He also served as an Assistant Professor of Labor and Industrial Relations in the Business School of UW – Parkside, and Director of the school’s LIR Degree Program. Dan has been a member of the National Academy of Arbitrators since 1991, and has served as Regional Chair, a member of the Academy’s Board of Governors, and chair of various committees. For the past nine years, he has served as the Neutral Co-Chair of the Ethics Committee for the ABA’s Committee on State and Local Collective Bargaining and Labor Relations Law. From 2003-2004, Dan was the President of the Association of Labor Relations Agencies, the professional organization for local, state, provincial and federal neutral labor relations agencies in the United States and Canada.-

Our 34th Annual Collective Bargaining and Arbitration Conference took place Thursday and Friday, April 14 and 15, 2011 at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, Washington. Workshops to fit all levels of experience, from the new steward, manager, business agent, human resources administrator or bargaining team member, to the more seasoned labor relations practitioner, were featured.
